• Selections 4 Unit Loss
  • Value Bets 0.37 Units Profit
  • The Investor 5.38 Units Profit
  • Day 1.75 Units Profit

Mixed feelings about today.  A small profit, but having my selections lose was disappointing.  The Value Bets reduced the loss slightly.  The Investor came good and smsmobilerescued the day for the SMS subscribers.  For those not on the FREE SMS service, you would have incurred a 3.63 loss for the day.  If you would like to receive the Free SMS service click here Request FREE SMS service

The Punting Club unfortunately lost $38 as it was bet on the selections.
The Investor Club link didn’t work today, luckily there was only 1 Investor (me), so I just put the bets through my own account.

Moonee Valley Race 2 It’s The One. She got pocketed when the rider of Marli Magic, in a fine piece of riding, managed to swap positions with her.  I was hoping from their barriers, that It’s The One may have pocketed Marli Magic against the rails, and and that she would get blocked for a run in the straight.  Instead our horse got blocked for the run.  Having said that I don’t know if she would have been good enough on the day.  I hate losing the first race … it sets a bad tone for the day 1 Unit Loss.

Steward’s Report :”Its One – commenced awkwardly before being inconvenienced after the start by Marli Magic (P Moloney) which shifted out; Patrick Moloney was spoken to advisedly. Over-raced in the middle stages.”

Randwick Race 6 Danas Best – He is trained by Gai and as with all her charges, she has an obsession for leading. She had her best rider on him and as expected he fought for the lead.  I shied away from this bet as it was a Cup and because of Gai.  Luckily the Investor didn’t and Berry had the horse winning by 5 lengths easing down.  TF $4.20, bet $24 to recover $100.  Profit $ 76.80

Stewards Report: “Danas Best – bled from both nostrils (second time) and will incur a lifetime ban in Australia under AR53A”

Ascot Race 2 FLYING ROAR Everything pointed to an easy win here, but Pike showed again why he is such a good tactician. He controlled the race, to win it easily on King River 1 Unit Loss

Randwick Race 7 SPURTONIC and HEART TESTA – The Investor Dutched these for $14 & $9 respectively.  After the previous at Randwick I was ready to line up and collect, but James McDonald, who has to be the best jockey in the East, rode a superb race to just nudge out Hughy Bowman’s mount.  The two best jockey’s in the race quinella it.  Loss $23.

Stewards Reports: “Heart Testa – ran out and bumped with Testarhythm at the 600m.

Spurtonic – rider B Shinn stated he had to make some use of the gelding to take up a position outside the leader and, with the race run at a solid pace, Spurtonic was never travelling within itself. He added, in his opinion, the gelding would be better suited over longer journeys, where it is able to travel in its races. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr M Newnham stated Spurtonic needs to be fresh to race competitively at the 1400m distance and now is looking for further ground.”

Morphettville Race 8 MAHICAN – this was to be used for a small bet or “paper traded” for the Compound Magic Spreadsheet.  2nd $1.40

Sydney Race 8 Shiraz – all the conventional wisdom had this as Harrier Jet’s race.  I thought that Shiraz could repeat the dose last time Harrier Jet was a short priced favourite.  I did get some news to watch out for ZIN ZAN EDDIE in this race, may surprise.  But I already had my bet selected, and swapping and changing leads to indecision and then paralysis by analysis.  Shiraz tried hard but wasn’t good enough today. 2 Unit Loss

Melbourne Race 9 GALLANT HARMONY our Value Bet for the day $3.50 the win and $6.50 the place.  He raced well and looked as if he may be able to win it at one stage.  Finished 3rd paying $2.10 … outlay 1 Unit ($10) Return $13.65, a profit of $3.65 or 0.365 Units.

Ascot Race 5 POWER PUNCH – this was to be the second leg of the Compound Magic “Paper Trade” or small bet.  A favourite who dropped out to near last in the run.  Had given them way too much of a start and finished outside the money.

I thought I had a chance of hitting with the ‘Paper Trades” so included them in the tips packages.  That was a mistake, but I will continue to “paper trade” the compound magic placegetters, to see if I can make it work.
